Slovenia Stays Perfect as EuroBasket U20 Day 2 Delivers Big Statements in Ljubljana

The second day of the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2026 brought another full programme of group-phase basketball in Ljubljana, with Slovenia continuing its strong home campaign and several teams making important early statements in the battle for the best possible position ahead of the knockout rounds.

Slovenia Overcomes Israel to Move to 2–0

Host nation Slovenia followed up its opening-day victory over the Czech Republic with another convincing performance, defeating Israel 90–77 in Group D.

The Slovenian team showed energy at both ends of the court and gradually built control of the contest. Israel stayed competitive, but the hosts found the answers whenever their opponents threatened to cut the gap. With the win, Slovenia moved to a perfect 2–0 record and took a major step towards finishing at the top of Group D.

The home crowd in Ljubljana once again played its part, creating an excellent atmosphere as Slovenia delivered another mature performance on the international stage.

Serbia Sends a Strong Message Against Lithuania

In Group B, Serbia defeated Lithuania 79–57 in one of the most impressive results of the day. Lithuania had opened the tournament with a 104–78 win over Latvia, but Serbia took control of the direct clash between two teams that had both started the competition with victories.

The Serbian side combined disciplined defence with efficient offence to pull away and secure an important 2–0 start. Lithuania will now look to respond quickly in its remaining group-phase game.

Latvia earned its first victory of the tournament in the other Group B fixture, beating Poland 77–68. The result leaves the group battle wide open heading into the final round of group games.

Turkey Holds Off Germany

Group A saw Turkey claim a valuable 83–76 victory over Germany. Germany entered the match full of confidence after its opening-day upset against defending champions Italy, but Turkey produced a composed performance to secure its first win of the competition.

With both teams now level in the standings, the final group matches will be crucial in deciding the order going into the next phase.

Greece Bounces Back, Czech Republic Finds Rhythm

In Group C, Greece responded strongly after its narrow opening loss to Croatia by defeating Belgium 84–69. Greece set the tone early and maintained its advantage throughout the game, while Belgium remains in search of its first victory.

Meanwhile, the Czech Republic beat Romania 93–66 in Group D. After losing to Slovenia on the opening day, the Czech team bounced back with an emphatic display and kept its hopes alive heading into the final group fixture.

Day 2 Results So Far

  • Group A: Germany 76 – 83 Turkey
  • Group B: Lithuania 57 – 79 Serbia
  • Group B: Poland 68 – 77 Latvia
  • Group C: Greece 84 – 69 Belgium
  • Group D: Czech Republic 93 – 66 Romania

What Is Next?

The group phase continues on Monday, July 13, with the final round of first-round games. Slovenia will face Romania, while other key matchups include France against Germany, Italy against Turkey, Greece against Spain and Serbia against Latvia.

Slovenia’s strong start has put the hosts in an excellent position, but there is still plenty to play for as the race towards the knockout stage intensifies in Ljubljana.
