Prva Liga Telemach: Mura Stun Olimpija, Maribor Secure First Victory of the Season
The second round of the Slovenian Prva liga Telemach continued on Saturday, July 25, with two major fixtures. NŠ Mura celebrated a narrow but significant home victory against a struggling Olimpija side, while NK Maribor finally found their winning form at Ljudski vrt against Brinje Grosuplje.
Mura 1–0 Olimpija Ljubljana: Crisis Deepens for the Dragons
In the standout fixture of the day, NŠ Mura hosted Olimpija Ljubljana at a packed Fazanerija Stadium. The match was decided early on when Robert Čakš struck in the 12th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse from the visitors to put Mura 1–0 ahead.
Despite Olimpija's efforts to find an equaliser, their attack lacked clinical finishing. The "Dragons," now under pressure after a slow start to the season, remain at the bottom of the table with zero points from their first two outings. For Mura, this win marks a perfect response after their opening-day draw, moving them to the top of the standings with 4 points.
Maribor 3–0 Brinje Grosuplje: Viole Rejoice at Ljudski vrt
NK Maribor welcomed the ambitious newcomers NK Brinje Grosuplje to Ljudski vrt. After a goalless draw in the first round, the 16-time champions were determined to secure all three points. The home side displayed a dominant performance, controlling the tempo from the kickoff.
Maribor secured a 3–0 victory, effectively neutralizing the threat from Grosuplje, who had shocked the league with a win in the opening round. The victory is a crucial morale booster for the "Violets" as they look to keep pace with the league leaders Celje and Mura.
Current Standings and Sunday's Preview
Following Saturday's results, NŠ Mura temporarily leads the table. NK Celje, whose match against Aluminij was postponed or rescheduled due to European commitments, follows closely behind. On the other hand, Olimpija’s back-to-back losses represent one of the most surprising starts to a season for the capital club in recent years.
The action continues tomorrow, July 26, with two more matches:
- NK Bravo vs. Nafta 1903 (18:00) at Stožice
- FC Koper vs. Radomlje (20:15) at Bonifika
Saturday Results:
NŠ Mura 1–0 Olimpija Ljubljana (Čakš 12')
NK Maribor 3–0 Brinje Grosuplje
Aluminij vs. Celje (Postponed)
